I don’t make resolutions anymore, but with the New Year upon us I thought it was as good a time as any to START something. Something new, something neglected, something fun, something challenging … you get the idea.
In 2017, I was grateful that my work went in a lot of different directions. This of course meant that some projects got sidelined in order to meet new deadlines. But I learned to juggle and diversify. Regular and repeat business is wonderful for a freelancer, and I comfortably settled into a groove.
But for 2018 I’m switching things up: tackling new business and stretching outside of my comfort zone. One of my first goals is to go back and finish those things that were important enough to make it to my to-do list in the first place. Things like blogging (for myself versus guest and ghost blogging for others), putting my phone aside when friends and family need me, and querying markets that would be a labor of love to write for. I’ll likely add to this list as time goes on, but I find it more attainable to tackle a few things at a time.
First things first: during this short week I’m cleaning my office so as to be better organized when school, work, and the madness of everyday life start up again. It will, of course, be an ongoing effort, but at least I will have started.
What kinds of things will you START this year? We can be accountable to each other; just follow me and comment from time to time to let me know how you’re doing. My best to you for a productive and prosperous New Year! Now go start something …
